Arpita Choudhury

Arpita Choudhury is a freelance illustrator who is inspired by the natural world. She strives to show nature in all its diversity and brilliance. Her illustrations can be a “portrait” of a particular species or a narrative about the world in which that species lives. She is interested in the different strategies plants and animals use to adapt and thrive as well as their role in the ecosystem. She is particularly fond of illustrating the more unusual members of the animal kingdom and highlighting ecological and conservation issues.

Arpita’s style varies from realism to surrealism to abstraction to anywhere in between. Her motivation is to tell a story, and she uses whatever tools and techniques that are available to tell that story. Her preferred mediums are watercolor, gouache, acrylic paint, and ink.

Arpita has been making art since she was a kid, but started practicing art professionally in 2015. Prior to that she received a B.S. in marine science/biology and a PhD in environmental science. She now lives in Longmont with her husband and daughter and two cats. When she isn’t creating art or spending time with her family, she loves to hike, travel, camp, run, read, cook, and practice yoga.

Arpita is also on the board of the Firehouse Art Center in Longmont, Colorado.
